The Bayerisches Laserzentrum GmbH (blz), Erlangen, Germany, as an independent service provider, has cross-technology skills from the laser process and system technology over protection to education and training. The expertise acquired through numerous research and industrial projects in the field of systems engineering is used at the blz to develop and manufacture custom laser and optical systems. Especially the processing of plastics and polymers with lasers in particular laser transmission welding is one of the main areas.
The blz will focus in this project in the process technology involved with the adaptive welding. In a first step the correlation between tomographic measurements and the produced weld seam quality and functionality will be investigated based on practical tests. Based on these practical experiments as well as simulation data the laser transmission welding process will be modeled together with GeonX and Amtron. Another important task of blz is the validation of the implemented adaptive process by the production of demonstrator parts together with LPKF, it4ip (medicine) and the associated partner Continental (automotive). These partners will perform tests on the machine producing welded parts with and without using the control module. This will be necessary in order to verify the benefit of using the new build-up control module based on tomographic images.
